Grade 8 Mathematics Performance Tasks

These tasks were created by AAESA teachers in conjunction with the Linda Jordan Performance Tasks Series in 2013-14.  The tasks below are math-related, and are excellent examples of performance tasks.  These tasks have not been peer-reviewed or tested at this time.  They are DRAFTS only.

Grades 8-10 - World Records in the One-mile Sprint

In this task, students are asked to use real data to predict when the men's and women's world records in the mile will drop below four minutes. The focus is on using and modeling data with all of the appropriate representations of the functions which model the data.

In this task, students use mathematical modeling to predict the time it would take to haul away Japan's Mt. Fuji by dumptruck.
